What special memories do we have of this conference? .
When it comes to ECER’02 in Lisbon I have to repeat the statement that I have no personal memories of this conference. Due to the end of my contract with Cedefop (and the move out of Greece) I was not in a position to contribute to the conference.
According to participants’ reports this conference was far more successful than the previous one. A major characteristic of this conference was a special session for exchanges between a representative of the European Commission (DG Research) and interested researchers who were planning to submit a bid for the 6th Framework Programme of Research.
What can be learned by studying the materials?
In a similar way as with ECER’00 and ’01, a set of abstracts has been collected for the VETNET proceedings. However, the full papers are not accessible.

What special memories do we have of this conference? .
When it comes to ECER’01 in Lille I have to start the blog entry with the statement that I have no personal memories of this conference. Due to a move (in Thessaloniki) I could not contribute to the preparation phase and I had to cancel my participation.
Regarding the sessions that I had proposed for the VETNET programme, it was possible to find alternative arrangements:
- The “growth of knowledge symposium” was implemented in a somewhat modified form by Graham Attwell (as a part of his contribution to the contract he had for the CEDRA development). The event was reported to have had a strong participation and the quality of the discussion was reported to be high.
- The workshop “Meeting point of networks” was implemented by Sabine Manning on the basis of the model that was used at ECER ’97. The event was reported to have aroused broad interest and attracted participants who ...

The ECER conference of the year 1999 was hosted by the University of Edinburgh. For EERA this conference was a step forward with the ECER tradition and with new initiatives to profile EERA as actor in European educational research policy (see below the notes on EERA president’s symposium). Regarding the preparation of VETNET programme, it was possible to build upon the pioneering work of the previous programme chair. Concerning VETNET itself, this was a major turning point regarding the internal development of the network (see below the report on the VETNET general assembly).

The ECER conference of the year 1999 was hosted by the University of Helsinki in its filial at a smaller inland town Lahti. For EERA this conference was yet another step forward with the ECER regular tradition. For VETNET, this particular conference was characterised by many major steps forward in shaping the VETNET program by the network itself. By the end of the conference, several conclusions were drawn to improve the internal organisation of VETNET.
What special memories do we have of this conference? .
The memories of this conference start already from the preparation. Already in the previous conference VETNET had appointed a programme chair from the host country, Johanna Lasonen from the University of Jyväskylä. Already during the preparation phase she took measures to get the papers for VETNET programme finalised and collected in due time. As a result, there was a printed proceedings ...

What kind of event was this?
The ECER conference of the year 1998 was hosted by the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia. The host country and host university appreciated this very much. Slovenia had only recently gained its independence and been recognised as a candidate for EU-Membership. In addition, the young educational researchers of the University of Ljubljana had taken several measures to get their community involved in European cooperation. For EERA this conference was a step forward in the consolidation of the ECER tradition. For VETNET this was also a further step in getting its section programme working as an integral part of the main conference.
What special memories do we have of this conference?
The conference was organised in the one of the main buildings of university that could well accommodate the sessions and at the same time provide space for the exhibitions. For VETNET this was of importance since ...
